What OEM covers on a plate
Five variables are open on an OEM order: fired diameter, well depth, rim profile (rim, coupe or organic), glaze colour matched to a fired chip, and the backstamp. Everything else stays on the factory standard, which is why the OEM price sits 8 to 15 percent above the stock plate rather than double.
Mould cost and timeline
A new plate mould runs 1,200 to 2,500 dollars depending on diameter and profile, and takes 18 to 25 days to cut and prove. That cost is one-time and stays with the factory unless you pay for the mould to be shipped, which most buyers do not need on a plate this size.
Add 10 to 14 days for a glaze development if the colour is new. Matching an existing Pantone from a fired chip is faster, usually 5 to 7 days.
MOQ by option
Stock shape with a custom backstamp: 500 pieces. Stock shape with a new glaze: 500 pieces per colour. New mould: 1,000 pieces, and 2,000 if the diameter goes above 30 cm. Mixed sizes count together toward the MOQ as long as the glaze is the same.
Sampling before you commit
Ask for three stages: a white sample to confirm geometry, a glazed sample to confirm colour under your lighting, and a production-run sample pulled from the kiln after the first 200 pieces. The third one is what catches shrinkage drift, and skipping it is how a 27 cm order arrives at 26.3 cm.
